Between driving back and forth between multiple baseball and softball games, visits to museums, trips to the pool and summer vacations, families put a lot of miles on their vehicles during the summer. At our Brunswick, ME Mazda dealership, we know how important it is to have a car that can handle families both big and small, which is why we encourage parents to check out the Mazda5. This June, Edmunds.com and Parents magazine teamed up to determine the Best Family Cars of 2012, naming the three-row, six-passenger “mini minivan” one of the top three crossovers for families.

The editors based their decision on the cars’ performance, interior and exterior styling, family features and, most importantly, safety and reliability. The 2012 Mazda5’s impressive array of standard safety features includes six airbags, dynamic stability control with a traction control system, and a Smart Accelerator Pedal System that gives priority to the brake over the throttle if the driver presses both simultaneously.

The list also cited the crossover’s smaller size, which, combined with the sharp handling found on Mazdas, means a greater agility and ease of parking over larger competitors. However, the Mazda5 still has plenty of room to hold groceries, camping gear or luggage; the crossover features under-seat storage beneath the second row and under-floor storage beneath the third row of seats, and with the third row of seats folded down families will enjoy 44.4 cubic feet of space.
